My name is
Joseph Biss III and I am an educational consultant. For over
twenty years now I have been traveling from school to school
teaching programs for the BOCES Young Scholars program. The
most common shows I put on are with Exotic and Domestic live
animals, mostly amphibians and reptiles, Forensics Sciences
and DNA Fingerprinting Labs.
The shows have a scientific basis and explain to the students
such things as the anatomy and physiology of the animals,
their place in the environment and often the impact man has
had on them over the years. The students always enjoy the
shows and are given a lot of information. I often receive
calls and e-mail from the students following the show asking
even more questions.
What I would like to do is to be able to put on shows for your
students. To make myself known to you and your teachers I
would like to make an offer. I would be happy to come to your
school and meet with you and your teachers to discuss the
shows. If you want I can also bring some of the animals so you
can see some of what the students will.
The shows are put on for the classrooms at the rate of $200
per one-hour class. If several classes are booked for one day,
the rate can go down. I am also now listed in the BOCES “Arts
in Education” program, which can act as a source of funding
for my presentations.
I also want to tell you about other classes I teach. From my
background as a college professor, environmental biologist and
research scientist, I have developed quite a list. The
following is a partial list of classes I have taught:
Genetic Engineering & DNA Fragment Analysis, Forensic Science,
Animals of Myth and Legend, Oceanography, Aquatic Biology,
Marine Biology, Water Pollution, Dissections, Human Anatomy &
Physiology, Sea Shells, Exotic animals –snakes, turtles,
lizards, etc.,
Botany, Ecology – Pollution, Human Senses, Microbiology,
Microscopes and how they work, Invading Nuisance Plants and
Animals, Computers, Physics, Chemistry, Fossils, Etc.
Classes such as Exotic Animals, DNA Technology and Forensic
Science can also be presented as 3, 4 or 5-day residencies for
$1500, $2000 or $2500 respectively.
If you are interested in any of these, or would like to
suggest some other types of programs, please let me know. I am
more than willing to develop new programs.
